Privacy Policy

Effective Date: September 30, 2026

I. Introduction

Philo is a place for your own thinking, and we treat what you write there with care. This policy explains what information Philo collects, how it is used, who processes it, and the choices you have.

II. Information We Collect

Account Information

When you create an account we store your email address, your name, and your sign-in credentials. If you sign in with Apple or Google, we receive the basic profile information those services share (your name, if provided, and an email address or a private relay address).

Content You Create

Your contemplations, reflections, journal entries, photos, the quotes shown to you and the ones you save, your answers in guided exchanges with Philo, takeaways, topics, experiments and decisions with their reviews, and principles are stored in your account. This content is private to you. Access is enforced in the database so that only your account can read or change it, and photos are kept in private storage that only your signed-in session can open.

Usage Records

Philo keeps simple records of how the service is used from your account: when quotes were generated, which quotes you have been shown (so they are not repeated), and how many guided exchange turns you have used. These records enforce daily limits, power the statistics on your profile, and help us keep the service reliable. Philo does not use third-party advertising or tracking.

Reminders

Daily reminders and check-in notifications are scheduled on your device. Your reminder preference is stored on the device, and you can turn reminders off at any time in Settings or in your system notification settings.

III. How Your Writing Is Processed

To choose quotes and write responses, Philo sends the text you are working on to language-model providers on our behalf. What you write in a contemplation, your reflection, and your answers in a guided exchange may be sent to OpenAI (to write explanations, Philo's replies, and check-in questions) and to TypeSafe Jev through OpenRouter (to judge which quotes fit and to steer the exchange). Only the text needed for that request is sent, never your name, email, or account identifiers. A short excerpt of your recent entries may accompany a new contemplation so the quotes fit what you have been working through, and when you have open topics their titles and latest excerpts are sent so Philo can suggest a continuation. Check-in questions use the experiment or decision text and the outcome you recorded.

If you ask Philo for a Weekly Review, the selected writing and related records from that week are sent the same way, only when you request it, and you can keep individual entries out of it.

These providers process the text to produce the response and are bound by their API terms. Philo does not use your writing to train models of its own.

IV. How We Use Your Information

• To provide and maintain the Philo service

• To select quotes and write responses that fit what you wrote

• To keep your reflections, topics, and follow-through connected over time

• To enforce fair-use limits and show your own statistics

• To manage your Scholar subscription

• To communicate important service updates

V. Data Security

Your data is stored with Supabase and protected in transit and at rest. Every table that holds your content is guarded by row-level security policies, so requests from your account can only reach your own rows. Server-side processing runs in isolated functions with credentials that never ship inside the app.

No method of electronic storage is completely secure. We work to protect your information but cannot guarantee absolute security.

VI. Data Sharing

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for marketing. Data is shared only with the providers that run the service:

• Supabase, which hosts the database, authentication, file storage, and server functions

• OpenAI and OpenRouter (TypeSafe Jev), which process text as described in section III

• Apple, Google, and RevenueCat, which process Scholar subscriptions; Philo never sees your payment details

• Legal authorities, when required by law

VII. Your Rights

You can read, edit, and delete your entries at any time inside the app; deleting an entry also deletes the guided exchange attached to it. You can delete your account and all of its data from Settings; deletion is permanent and removes your profile, entries, photos, exchanges, topics, follow-through records, principles, usage records, and the subscription record held for you at RevenueCat. For access or export requests, or anything else about your data, contact us at the address below.

VIII. Children's Privacy

Philo is not intended for anyone under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from children.

IX. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy as Philo changes. Significant changes will be communicated in the app or by email. Continued use after a change means you accept the updated policy.
